I was really stoked about this game releasing especially during a pandemic that has been limiting the releases of a lot of hit games. It’s a great golf game a lot like Hot Shots golf with the gameplay but it offers a lot of different game modes and I’m sure there will be more content to come as there usually is with these games. People need to remember this isn’t a game like when they use to release games on nintendo or super nintendo, you will get more content eventually. I work 6 days a week so I haven’t had the time to beat the game like a lot of these reviewers I’m seeing on here. SO my takeaways are the amount of characters you can choose from is mad, I’ve been playing the adventure mode which is really neat, reminds me of pokemon some. They start you off where you’re known as the upcoming rookie golfer, believe they call you a prodigy. You have to start by going around the map and talking to a good amount of people before you actually get started golfing, they teach you the mechanics of the game which is a pain at least to me but it’s better to know all the controls and functions because it will make you a better player overall especially early on. I saw people complaining about courses but when you think about it even playing on the same course over and over isn’t the same when you add in wind factors and weather change so I don’t see this as a big deal. Rush mode is very cool because it entices you so to speak to want to play faster to get your ball in first so you really do have to be clutch in every moment in that mode. Overall I would get this game now, unless you have another game or two that is taking up your time then you really don’t need the extra content but it’s fun, controls are easy and it’s Mario, when have they ever put out a game that wasn’t amazing! Hope that helps.

The Mario Golf series has been one of my favorites for a while now. To me, it’s a game of strategy, with many different factors coming into play; ball lie, wind, elevation difference, horizontal and vertical slope, varying club angle and power, etc. Much more than my actual score, I find it incredibly fun and rewarding to come up with a strategy based on these things and executing my shot. The result may not always be what I had planned, but nothing beats the feeling of seeing my vision play out to a tee on the screen in front of me.That being said, I unfortunately cannot get the same experience from Super Rush. The biggest culprit is Camelot’s brain dead decision to make accuracy completely random on every shot you take. The theory, their theory, is that the more power you go for with a given club, the higher chance there is for a “bad shot” (the red area of the power bar). Might sound good on paper, but many problems quickly arise from this. Your accuracy can just as easily go awry, in either direction, even if you stop your power well shot of the red area. A “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” kind of situation… not exactly ideal for a sports game. Also because of this new “feature,” it basically takes out accounting for the wind, since you have no idea which direction your accuracy is going to land; just aim to a general area and pray. After awhile, this makes for a very bland experience. It’s feels almost as if the game decides ahead of time whether or not you will get on the green within par, as opposed to letting the player decide with an educated game plan and well executed button presses. 18 holes of simply going with the flow, without much input from you, the player. The new system also immediately contradicts itself, as you now have better projected accuracy with more powerful clubs in short to mid-range distance situations. For example, using your 3 wood over a 9 iron out of the rough will yield a more reliably accurate shot since the red area penalizes you the further your marker travels up the power bar. Speaking of contradictions, we have the rangefinder, the new tool they provide you as far as viewing the hole you’re on; think of it like a pair of binoculars. Since it’s purely a straight away camera, it can make it impossible to know the lie you’re shooting to if it dips in elevation beyond a hill or something. Some will claim it was added for more realism, which would prompt me to ask them how real life golfer get a bird’s eye view of the entire course, while also seeing visual representation of their balls landing spot and subsequent roll. In addition, what real life rangefinder can cut through trees and mountain sides to give you an exactly replicated and unobscured view of the green, no matter the elevation change? You can’t do both… you cannot take away my options for looking at the lay of the land in the name of “realism,” while allowing me to do humanly impossible things at the same time. Make up your mind; am I playing a simulation, or a video game? Up and down arrows are also placed next to the pin icon to indicate change in elevation. The problem with that is, while shooting high, they’re basically telling exactly you how much lift you need to put on your ball as shaping is shown as arrows on your power bar. Just one more aspect Camelot thought you shouldn’t have to burdened with anymore. One quick thing: Why when I change putting distance to display as “feet” in the options, is it still being shown as yards on the green? It only alters the power bar, but that does nothing for me if I have to convert yards to feet myself anyway. It’s tedious, and it genuinely feels like an error that got overlooked in testing (assuming there was any). Moving on to the new shot shaping. With super star clubs your power bar is broken into four segments as opposed to just one long bar (standard), or two parts (star clubs). This matters because you can input up to three different shape commands per segment, and while your ball is flying through air, the segments will be highlighted starting from bottom to top, and the game will apply them accordingly. As an example. you can lift the ball at the beginning, make it hook right in the next segment, defy gravity and climb higher in the third, then hook back to the left to finish. The way your ball ignores the laws of physics like a remote controlled drone is absolutely ridiculous. and the final nail in the coffin as far as my enjoyment is concerned. Shaping was as close to perfect as can be in past games, very intuitive and rewarding to pull off. I just don’t understand why they felt the need to implement this goofy mechanic to clash against their attempts at making the game more realistic. What happened to Camelot? I enjoyed every other entry in the series, and given a new console to work with, Super Rush should have theoretically been the best one. Even the characters themselves are vanilla in comparison. Besides their character models, their only defining traits are minor differences in driving distance. Gone are the days of characters having unique levels of trajectory on there shot, or varying fades or draws. It just seems like this game has no idea what it wants to be. They dumbed everything down in order to streamline speed golf, they’re big selling point, but neglected the most important part of the game: PLAYING GOLF. This game was sold to me “as is,” so I am reviewing it as such. Here’s to future “free updates;” I’ll be waiting.

I’ve been a fan of Mario Golf games since the N64 version, so I was really looking forward to this game. First off, the golfing in this game is well done & a lot of fun. Story mode is simple, but gives a pretty goof feel to actual golf pro shops, club houses, training, & local golf trainers. Story mode also does a good job at teaching you how to play the game.Of course buying a Mario Golf game in 2021 for a single player experience, probably isn’t happening much. Good news is that Mario Golf: Super Rush does offer some great multiplayer action! Speed Golf & Battle Golf are NEW & both are a lot of fun. Sadly, Speed & Battle Golf can only be played by 2 players locally, however 4 players can enjoy a good game of regular golf. You can choose between 17 characters to play as (that number includes the Mii character, & at the time of this review a free update has made Toadette a playable character bringing the roster up tp 18). Mario Golf: Super Rush has 6 courses (after downloading the free update, you will be able to add 1 new course bringing it up to 7).Online mode is fun, but very basic and bare. Hopefully Nintendo will add online tournaments & events soon to add some spice. It seems there will be future updates for the game, adding new courses, characters, & I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a new mode or two.So as of right now after the first free update (Toadette & New Donk City), I can say that I enjoy this game a lot. I feel the music could be better, motion controls aren’t great (but make for a fun time at a game night), & lacking some modes. On the positive side however, this game is fun, with online 1 player can have endless fun with this game, some really fun courses, a great roster of characters, unique special shots, very fun new game modes, & free updates coming at later dates to improve the game even more.So if you have been wanting a fun Mario Golf game, this is a safe purchase or you. If you want a game for a game night where 4 people can have fun playing at the same time, this is probably game you want to pass on for right now.
