   Once you get the hang of it it’s hard to stop playing. I haven’t played Crypt of the Necrodancer but I am a Zelda fan. The game is fairly short. It didn’t take me long to complete but it was very enjoyable.

   Such a fun rhythm game! A must have for any Zelda fan. It’s a little hard to get into the groove at first… (Pun intended). You’re gonna die a lot. But once you figure it out and how each monster moves then it becomes a blast. I’d only recommend this to more experienced gamers, or anyone looking for a decent challenge.

   Extremely fun game! You have to like rythmic based games or be competent at timing or you’ll have a bad time. As you literally cannot move or attack unless you time them to the beat. Liking the Zelda series is a plus too. Music is fantastic and the controls are tight (gives you options to calibrate video and sound if your TV is off, similar to guitar hero). Solo is fun and 2 player is even more fun. Especially when you figure out that you can “accidentally” kill one another with boulders, flame rods and chickens. Never played the original Necromancer, but been having a blast with Cadence of Hyrule so far!

   This game really came out of left field, but I was surprised by its quality. The game is a crossover between the blockbuster franchise The Legend of Zelda and the indie hit Crypt of the Necrodancer.I never played Crypt of the Necrodancer, but I can say that Cadence of Hyrule plays its hand well. The idea is that you can only move to the beat, so you have to memorize enemy patterns and predict when to strike. The hits are satisfying, and getting hit isn’t the end of your life. Trying to concentrate on maneuvering around enemies and following a beat at the same time is kind of hard, so the punishments for missing a beat are minor, but can still flub you up and rewards skillful players. The world is procedurally generated, which means that the world is different every time. However, it has limits and makes sure that everything is organized. Basically, imagine a bunch of tiles, each with a different area on them. The area stays the same, but starting a new file shuffles those tiles around, meaning landmarks will be in different places and provide new challenges without making the player feel lost. This adds massive replayability to the game, and will certainly give you some more hours on your switch.One staple of Zelda games is the revolving door of items, and this game maintains that. Except, instead of having items be reserved for certain puzzles within dungeons, the items are randomly scattered around the overworld, meaning that the puzzles are less item focused and more a test of your brainpower. There are a things that you can only do with specific items, but they’re mostly out of the way and have alternative solutions. You can go anywhere on the map at any time, so the items instead serve the purpose of facilitating travel through various areas of the game. There are key items that are required, such as the flippers, goron locket, and power thrust, but they are easy to find in a normal playthrough.One feature ported from Crypt of the Necrodancer is the equipment feature. Basically, occasionally you’ll find rings, boots, torches, and weapons in treasure chests or from defeating enemies. They provide various buffs, but they have a durability. This wouldn’t bother me that much, except that they break really easily. You also lose them all when you die, meaning if you had a favorite weapon that you had upgraded and a bokoblin causes you to kick the bucket, you’re going to have to say goodbye. Rest In Peace, Master Longsword. I can deal with rouge-like elements like these, but what really grinds my gears is the limit. You can only have one of each of these items at a time, meaning that if one breaks, you don’t have a backup and now have to play without that item.These gripes, though, are a pebble in the face of the mountain of good features.One of the key features of this game is the soundtrack. They take classic Zelda themes, and remix them into fantastic arrangements that breathe life into the fields and forests of Hyrule. It only makes sense that a rhythm game would have a good soundtrack. This combination makes the fights pump adrenaline through your veins, adding to the intensity of the game. Then, when you purge a room of all of the enemies in it, the music calms down, and the adrenaline-filled soundtrack turns into a more mellow and harmonic version of the song and allows you free reign of the room.If you have a little goblin that constantly begs for you to share a joycon, then fear not. This game features a two-player mode, that allows two people to move on the screen at once. You can’t get in each others’ ways, and all items and hearts are shared, so unless you have the relationship of Tom & Jerry, it’s a joy to play with friends.Overall, I highly recommend this game to anyone, no matter your experience with video games. It comes with tons of content at a reasonable price, and certainly won’t be a game you’ll forget. With the new free Octavo DLC, a single player can get two playthrough’s worth of time doing the bare minimum. This game is a joy to play, and I hope this studio continues to make more games.

   The zelda game made by an indie team…. and it shows. The usual zeldaisms are lacking, and the game has been injected with a large dose of sjw political efforts. But the game itself is astonishingly well made and definitely a lot of fun…. if you like roguelikes. As a fan of both zelda and roguelikes this was definitely enjoyable.
